The 14 Pro Max outsells its predecessor, according to Ming-Chi Kuo, while demand for the larger iPhone 14 Plus is lower than for the smaller

A preliminary report on the pre-orders for Apple's most recent iPhone generation was released by TF Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. The iPhone 14 Pro Max's demand has surpassed that of the 13 Pro Max's this year, earning it a "good" rating. The iPhone 14 Pro, on the other hand, received a neutral rating (i.e., demand equal to that of the 13 Pro), and the other two models received a "bad" rating.
Overall, it appears to be a wash for Apple, although the move to more expensive models will result in a higher average selling price (ASP). 45% of the iPhone 14 series' total shipments are made up of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus.

Strangely, according to Kuo's research, demand for the new Plus model is lower than that of the iPhone 13 mini from last year, the small that was discontinued due to low demand (the Plus is also reportedly performing worse than this year's iPhone SE).
